A Brother in Christ from California wrote...
David, God bless you brother,
Here is my testimony: In February
1983, I was in quite a place of despair. I was homeless, and have no
work. I did have a wonderful blessing I had a car a Toyota Corolla 70's
model. My home was my car. Since I lived in my car, and it was a small
town in California. I could go anywhere for the night and sleep. I
would either sleep in the hills, in a friend’s driveway, or go to
the California Aqueduct (canal) This night; I spent the night parked at
the canal. I would find bait on the ground that some fisherman had
thrown down, because it was no good. Although now that the sun had
baked the bait, and dried it. It will now stay on my hook. I would park
the car along side the canal, pointing south. I would bait one fishing
pole and open the trunk of the car, and wedge it into the trunk. My
second fishing pole I would put it out the driver side window, and
close the window. Most nights were very cold, I still would shiver even
though I had a sleeping bag, and sometimes I would wake up shaking
because of the temperature drop. When the catfish started to bite, I
could feel the car move, and wake up and catch the fish, and put it
into a bucket of water. I had caught two big catfish, and was very
cold, and I decided to drive back to town. I could now run the heater
on the car so I could stop the shivering. I drove to my friend’s
home; actually, it was a 1950 something Air Stream Travel Trailer, with
a room built on to the back of it. Her name was Ruth, and her children
Linda, and Donald. Through the years that I have known this family, we
developed a good relationship. They were living on a fixed income, and
we always shared food and such with each other. I drove up in the
driveway, and got out of the car. I then started to clean the catfish.
This was going to be an awesome morning; we were going to have fish for
breakfast. The morning was very brisk, and was starting to feel a
little better as the sun came up. Linda and Donald soon joined me
outside, and we climbed up on top of the trailer to watch the sun come
up and to smoke a joint. We walked inside laughing, high on the drug.
Linda started to cook breakfast. Ruth her mom, always had Christian TV
on and she would talk to me about the bible. I was stoned and lost as a
blind man. Being stoned TV has a way of drawing your attention. I was
watching the television, Jimmy Swaggart was singing on the TV, and I
thought oh what a beautiful voice. He then ministered his sermon, and
He spoke to me, I do not remember what he said, but I asked Ruth to
explain it to me. In the meantime, it was still cold in the trailer,
and Ruth had turned the oven and stovetop burners on to heat up the
trailer. Ruth got up to get us some coffee, she notice that the
stovetop burners weren’t pumping out the heat. But she screamed
and then said Praise God. I asked, “What is wrong", Ruth replied,
“The stove was on, but it is not lit, and Praise God He stopped
it from blowing up." I said, “What?” Ruth responded the
same message, and I immediately fell to my knees and thanked God for
protecting me, and I asked Him to forgive me of my sins through Jesus
Christ name. God so loved Gary that He protected me from dying in a gas
explosion. Praise God. I am very grateful to Jimmy Swaggart, and my
dear friend Ruth, God's vessels to bring me to His Love. I was once a
drug addict, an alcoholic, and God came passing by one day. He touched
and made me whole again. Jesus Christ took away the drugs, the booze, I
was stoned when Jesus came to me; and He took that high away, and He
gave me a high I never knew, His Love. Father I exalt your name in this
testimony. Father I pray that where ever this goes, that it will be
anointed to touch hearts of the lost, of the wounded, of those who are
dependant to substance abuse. Father I pray in Jesus Christ name that
you would save people through these words of my salvation. Amen.
Bless all those in God's love Greetings to you my brothers and sisters in Christ in God with all my love to you, Reverend Gary
