SET FREE IN CHRIST

John 8:31-36

What an amazing concept, “Set Free in Christ!” yet what truth!

As we look at these scriptures, we find some nuggets of valuable information in order to live in the concept of, “Set Free in Christ.”

1-     “If you continue in my word…”

This first nugget gives us a very real principle that is necessary for being “Set Free in Christ.”

Only as we continue in Christ’s word will we truly understand freedom in Him.

True disciples of Christ gain confidence in their salvation as they obey the words of Christ.

2-     “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free…”

The reality of this nugget is contingent on the first.

Only thru continuance in and obedience to the Word are we able to realize and understand the truth and the Truth is Christ Jesus!

The Truth sets us free from sin, eternal damnation, and the rule of satan, only as we accept and adhere to the truth!

3-     “Whoever commits sin is the servant of sin…”

Jesus is saying here that whoever continues in sin or habitually sins is still a slave to sin and ungodliness and therefore is still the property and under the rule of satan.

This means that an individual who continues in sin lives according to the desires and lust of the flesh and also whatever satan desires, because slaves obey their master.

4-     “If the Son makes you free you are free indeed!”

This liberty in Christ is certain, it is real, and has real effects.

The true believer, one who has truly repented and has turned from a continuance in sin, now possesses salvation in Christ.

With this salvation comes freedom from the bondage of sin. We do not have to sin. We have been set free from sin.

Because of Christ in us, when we face temptation we have power to act according to God’s will.

Since we are ““Set Free in Christ” we now belong to Him and are servants of righteousness. [Romans 6:18 & 22]

The freedom we have in Christ will cause us to desire God’s will in our lives, His direction, and cause an insatiable desire for more of Him.

We are “Set Free in Christ” to worship Him, to adore Him, and to follow hard after Him!

“Set Free in Christ!” What an amazing concept, yet what truth!
